1,2,4-triazole and their derivatives are often choiced for metal–organiccoordination polymers, particularly its4-substituted derivatives can be used to obtainunique topology and novel compounds based on its bridging function.We have synthsized nine coordination polymers using flexible ligands1,2-bis(1,2,4-triazol-4-yl) ethane with transition metal cations Cd(Ⅱ),Cu(Ⅱ), Zn(Ⅱ),Ag(I):{[Cd(btre)Cl]·H2O}n(1),{[Cd(btre)Cl][CdCl(dca)2]·0.5H2O}n(2),{[Cd3(btre)2(SO3-bdc)2]·4H2O}n(3),{[Cu3(OH)2(btre)2(SO3-Hbdc)2]·3H2O}n(4),{[Cu4(btre)(bdc)2Cl2(OH)2]·2H2O}n(5),{[Ag(btre)BrO3]·H2O}n(6),{[Ag4(btre)3(Hnta)2(H2O)2]·7H2O}n(7),{[Cd(btre)(OH-bdc)]}n(8),{Zn(btre)0.5(OH-bdc)(H2O)2]·1.5H2O}n(9).These compounds have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, wefound that ligand btre as a bridge to connect two centers exhibits the anti or gaucheconformation and formed one-dimensional chain structure8; two-dimensional (4,4)network structure6; three-dimensional microporous network1,2and7;three-dimensional polynuclear network3,4and5; and interpenetration twin network9,in which1forms a novel3D microporous cation network,2exhibits a newpolythreaded network by the reaction of anion [N(CN)ˉ2], ligand btre and transitionmetal, that is the first3D microporous cation coordination network which ispolythreaded with1D ladders and has polyrotaxane character, and the ligand btre as abridge to connect two centers exhibits the anti conformation, while in the compound3,the ligand btre shows the anti and gauche-conformation based on its bridging function,and finally formed a unique two-nuclear symmetric structure3. The structure of9is thefirst an unusual three-dimensional coordination network formed by parallel polythreaded of two-fold polycatenated (6,3) layers. The successful synthesis of thiscompound not only provides an intriguing example of a polythreaded system but alsoprovides new perspectives to devise novel extended entanglements.These compounds have been characterized by elementary analyses, IR analyses,luminescence, thermogravi-metric analyses, adsorption, and magnetism analyses.
