Abstract Rolling procedure is featured with large size, high speed, continuation and automation in recent years and it also pay much attention to saving the materials and increase the quality. Shape of strip is a main target of strip products, especially when the strip is developing to wide and thin size. The wider and thinner the product is, the more emergent is the deficiency of shape of strip. The detection of shape of strip is a important segment of strip quality detection and shape auto-control. In the auto-control procedure of shape of strip, whether the shape detection device can reflect the shape condition of the strip accurately, that is, whether the device can supply accurate online information for the control system can immediate influence the quality of strip product. Shape detection of strip is one of the important premises to the implementation of shape auto-control of strip. Shape detection of strip is a difficult problem and the shape of strip is affected by many factors and there are many complex forms of shape deficiency, all this bring great difficulties to accurate detection. Contact detection roll is very complex in structure because it needs rotating devices to link the strip and the force-sensing unit, and the mechanical attrition make it抯 accuracy not so satisfying, what抯 more, the surface of the strip is tend to be fish tailed because of the high detection tension, especially for the soft material such as aluminum and copper. DAVY roll can cover all these shortages, and it抯 theoretical foundation is the gas-film lubrication theory. In China, research of this gas-film lubrication theory is not yet perfect, and the research of triturating detection device using the theory is yet in blank. Now the shape detection accuracy and reliability of shape detection device has severe confined the development of the high accuracy strip rolling mill. So it抯 very urgent to triturate shape detection device with high reliability and high accuracy. This project is right to develop a set of accurate air-actuated shape detection device, the merits of which are high detection accuracy, zero friction operating, no fish tail to the strip surface and online auto-control. In this project, the author has applied the gas-film lubrication theory and static pressure bearing principle and finished the structure design of the shape detection ?II ? roll. The FEM is used to solve the air Reynolds equation of detection roll gap and eccentricity ratio-load relation and pressure-load relation under different parameters are obtained, thus realized the parameters optimization of shape detection roll. Prototype sample is processed out and experiment is implemented to verify the rationality of shape measuring roll and the exactitude of the FEM emulation result and supply sufficient preparation for the manufacture of air-actuated strip shape detection device.
