PLA]Si02/Ti02 , a new hybrid organic-inorganic material was synthesized by sol-gel method. Two kinds of processes were taken here. One is the cohydrolysis-condensation of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and tetrabutoxytitanate (TBOT) with lactic acid acting as coupling agent of TBOT. But it found that high molecules polylactide (PLA) could not be abstained through the self-condensation of lactic acid in ambient temperature because of its low balance constant. The other is TEOS and TBOT cohydrolized-condensed in the solution of PLA which was prepared first. The structures and properties of the hybrid material including chemical properties, thermal stability and optical properties were characterized by IR ~. DSC and SEM. It was found that in this material the solicit component and titanic component were linked by the Si-O-Ti bond ,It also shows that Si-O-C bonds were formed between the organic and inorganic components according to the appearance of the absorption peak at 1140-1 090cm?in the spectra of the product and never in those of the reacting substances. The effect of the inorganic content on the thermal behavior of materials was investigated by DSC. The result demonstrated that the value of feasible temperature increased. SEM pictures show that organic and inorganic phases had good compatibility when the inorganic content was lower than 9wt% . It was also found that this hybrid material exhibited good chemical stabilities ~. thermal stabilities and transparence.
