The research in this paper has been focused on strength analysis and optimization of the platens of injection molding machine.The practical background of the project was the front platen of model SZ-500CK pull-rod, and the rear platen of model SZ-6300 manufactured by Lifeng injection molding machine factory of Liuzhou. AS 3-D components, the platens of injection molding machine had rather complex structure and force condition. There is a great different error with approximate engineering calculation. As a result, some of the crevices have been found in some platens. In order to solve this problem, cooperating with College of Mechanical Enginering in Guangxi University- the factory decided to analyze series of platens by finite element method (FEM) and structural optimal design on the ANSYS and I-DEAS software.The study was based on this project, and the main works were as following:F A series of analysis of the front platen of model SZ-500(K pull-rod and the rear platen of model SZ-6300 was carried on by FEM of ANSYS software. Stress and displacement distribution show the reason of crevices. At the same time, the result of the experiment through stress-measurement verified the calculating correct results, and the reasonable modeling.2. Based on FEM, topological optimization method was used to analyzeplaten structure. The result of optimization implies ribs' arrangement. According to it, many new platen models are proposed, \vhich have 20% higher strength and stiffness than original by analysis. Main features of this thesis are as following:(1) Using advanced ANSYS software as a tool of FEM and topological optimization;(2) Combining theory with practice, and aiming at solving the practical design problem for the factory;(3) Compared with the traditional method, the FEM method greatly improve the analysis accuracy and design quality;(4) Trying to optimize platen's structure by advanced topological optimization method.
