The chemistry of transition metal complexes with Schiff base ligands has been of great interest for inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry. The complexes may be used in medicine because of their higher antitumor, antibacterial activities and the stronger scavenging O 2 ability. They also have been extensively used as catalyst, stabilization agent and molecular magnetic materials. Syntheses and characterizations of coordination compounds with Schiff base ligands have evolved as one of the main research areas in coordination chemistry in the recent years. In this thesis, ten Nickel/Zinc complexes of the JV-acylsalicylhydrazide Schiff base containing N-N bonds were synthesized in room temperature, their chemical formulas are listed as below: 1.Ni(C14H8N305)2(C5H5N)42. Ni3(C11H11N3O3)2(C5H5N)43.Ni3(C13H15N203)2(C5H5N)44.Ni3(C13H,5N203)2(C5H5N)2(C3H7NO)25 . [Ni3(C I4H9N2O3)2(C3H7NO)2(C5H5N)2] -2C3H7NO- H2O6.[Ni3(C14H9N2O3)2(C2H5N)6](C5H5N)CH3OH2H2O7.[Ni3(C14H9N203)2(OH)2(C2H60)2]-2(C3H7NO)-0.5C2H609.Zn(C9H9N203)2(C5H5N)210.Zn3(C14H8N305 )2(C5H5N)4The complexes above were characterized by X-ray diffraction. The results show that the complexes 1-8 are of trinuclear nickel(II) complexes. Their central nickel atoms are bridged to the terminal nickel atoms through the hydrazide nitrogen atoms resulting in Ni-N-N-Ni-N-N-Ni linkages. The complex 9 shows an one-dimensional chain of the two Zn3(C14H8N3O5)2(C5H5N)4 complex molecules bridged by the phenolate oxygen atom donors. The mononuclear complex 10 is octahedron structure with Zn(II) being coordination center. The complexes were characterized by IR, UV-VIS electronic spectrum, fluorescent spectrum, CV and TG-DTA.
