Along with the gradual procession and completion of the technical modification projects to the existing ammonia and urea installations of Sichuan Lutianhua Co. Ltd. in recent years, and the approaching operation of the newly-built methanol installation, there will be problems of unbalance of ammonia among the production installations in this company. Considering this situation, through an analysis to the "unbalance of ammonia", this paper introduces the feasibility of capacity expanding and energy saving to the No.1 urea installation: and through an analysis to the isobaric double-stripping process of IDR unit and its current energy consumption condition, this paper draws the conclusion of necessity and feasibility of energy saving modification for the IDR unit. Based on the above two points, this paper suggests a capacity expansion and energy saving modification proposal to the No. 1 urea plant of Sichuan Lutianhua Co. Ltd.This paper presents the overall thought of the modificatiopn proposal that will keep previous process and use previous equipments and their original internal structure as more as possible. The proposal lists three possible modification options: using the whole CO2 stripping process, replanting partly CO2 stripping process and applying the two tower high-efficiency composition process. Furthermore, through comprehensive and detailed studies and comparisons of those three options, including the process selection, equipment capacity check, calculation of material and heat balance, investment estimation and profit analysis, the most preferable wayof applying two tower high-efficiency composition process is determined.Though this modification project hasn't been turned into substantial process, this study provides a useful guiding on the approaching project, which has been now put on agenda for detail discussion. Therefore, this study is expected to put an important effect on smooth commencement and proceeding of the project, so as topromote the project successfully completed at an early time.
