This article details the recent progress at home and abroad about the computer aided roll pass design of skew rolling grinding ball, and the overall development of the CARD system. Also described here in the article are in-deep research and discussion on the roll pass design of skew rolling grinding ball. A math model for optimization of roll pass design of grinding ball is set up based on various factors concerning the roll pass including the design theory and the movie of the inclination of the rollers. The concept of the software engineering is introduced into CARD in this paper. According to structured design, a Windows grinding ball CARD system has been developed by Visual C++6.0 language. Viewing the difference of the rib wide and link length minimum as the object function, this system can get the plan which the difference is minimal, and under the condition satisfying the bite condition. Then the optimum plan can be drawn into rib ascending curve, the lead figure automatically. This software has high general-purpose nature, and can be run in any above Windows98 operating system. The design is reliable, highly precise, and convenient. It provides a scientific method for the roll pass design of grinding ball.
