The characteristics of a whole machine tool structure, which directly affect the machining quality and productivity of products, are an important criterion to estimate the performance of a machine tool. The prediction and modification of the characteristics of a whole machine tool structure at its design stage not only improves the quality of machine tools, and shortens the development period, but also decreases the cost of development, and increases the competition power in the machine tools market.The paper deals with the modeling and analysis of static characteristics of the machine structure using the boundary element method. First, the paper deduces the formulas of plate plane stress problem and plate bending problem, and studies the method of region coupling of above two problems using the region division technique. Then, the paper studies the method of modeling and analysis of static characteristics of the assembled plate-structures which are often used in machine using BEM by adding rigid coupling conditions, and deduces relevant formulas.Based on the above theory, some programs have been developed using M language. By comparing the test solution with known analytic solution and numerical solution given by the finite element method, it is proved that the analytic model, the analytical method and the programs are right, and the BEM model has the great potential in the analysis of structure characteristics of machine tool.
