The color-match in the manufacture of the linerboard paper is very complicated. Although the color of linerboard depends mainly on the color of top layer, it is also strongly influenced by the color of the second layer and often deviates from the desired color. Therefore, it is inaccurate for us not to consider the color of second layer when color-match is done. According to study on optical features of linerboard in this paper, a new color match algorithm was developed, which incorporates the color of top layer and second layer in color-match calculation, and makes it easier to accomplish color-match accurately. A software based on this algorithm has been accomplished, which can be used in liner product line.In the first part of the paper, changes of top layer's optical features such as scattering coefficient, reflectance and K/S in dyeing process were studied. The study shows that Kubelka-Munk theory can be used for predicting top layer's optical features well in most experiments, but in other cases, it needs to be modified. For example, when several dyestuffs are used simultaneously, the result of dyeing is different from that used one by one, and the appropriate modification towards the deviation is found out.In the second part, the applicability of reflectance equation for doublelayer papers was discussed. Study also shows that we could use the doublelayer reflectance equation to modify the deviation caused by the second layer.Sometimes, the colors between two samples using the same recipe are different. In order to find the reason, in the third part, we studied the influencing factors in dyeing process. In the fourth part of the paper, the color-match software's functions were studied. The structure of software were also studied. In the fifth part, the usability of the software was verified. A color-match experiment of three representative colors of liner such as red, yellow and brown was done successfully, which shows that the software is accurate enough to be used in liner product line.
