Computer aid and Database technologies have obtained wide applications in welding because of their outstanding achievements. Welding procedure design is a complicate work which need abundant experience and refer much data. The efficiency of the traditional design methods is too slow too meets the demand of the development of today's aluminum manufacturing. So, it's necessary to integrate the automatic management of welding files and the computer aid design of the welding procedure to improve the efficiency of the welding procedure design and realize the intelligent welding procedure design. This dissertation studies on a computer aided system of aluminum alloy welding procedures (CAWPDS), which is based on artificial intelligence technology and database management system. It can not only manage welding documents and data but also design welding procedures due to its ability in representing knowledge and reasoning. The flexibility of the system lies in that during the reasoning of system you can step in it to control the reasoning direction. The system is made up of several parts: welding procedures designing, welding documents management, welding information database, welding knowledge database maintain, system help and human-computer interface and so on. By making use of SQL Sever database manage system and the principle of artificial intelligence, CAWPDS can effectively manage welding process documents, which includes procedure qualification record, welding procedure specification and welding procedure design, and offer a wizard of welding procedure design to aid the user in designing aluminum weld process, which in some way is intelligent. It supplies these files with the standard forms and has the functions of browsing, inquiring, maintaining and printing. This system is built based on the database management system (MS SQL Server2000) and utilizes VisualBasic6.0 as developing tools. It has good human-computer interfaces and can be easily operated and maintained.
