There is a long history on the study of Land Use and Cover Change in Coast and Estuary. With the booming of Remote Sensing technology , it becomes a major approach to get the LUCC data via remotely sensed images. Many people have tried successfully to use this method in many researching categories. But, almost all the tasks were limited by their respective research cover periods, thus they have poor consistency of research. Further more, because of the great differences of the people's needs and the data sources and the accuracy of the analysis; it's hard for us to make a comparison between these researches. So it's different to monitor the changes of the LU/LC automatically. This paper focused mainly on developing a d ynamic monitor method for the LU/LC information using the remote sensing data and historical datasets and the LU/LC of the Luanhe delta was studied as an example of such monitoring. The following achievements were obtained in the paper. Integrating the environmental models with GIS. By using an advanced spatial model of database, we developed a formatted geographical database to store and manage all the historical datasets in many universal standards. It makes the historical data easy to be used in later study.ii. Remotely sensed image is a major data source for the LU/LC change detection, so most of the new LU/LC data are extracted from these images, then, the data are also put into the Geographical database. Simultaneously, the data are formatted with particular criterions in the database.iii. An example is given to demonstrate how to use the datasets in the Geographical database to perform a LUCC study. Based on the LU/LC data of study area in 1987 and 2000, which were classified from Landsat TM/ETM+, and some other data in the database, the change of the LUCC in study area was obtained and the driving forces for this change was discussed. Finally, a prediction for the LU/LC change was presented.
