The technology of the principal axis of inertia measurement mostly applies to the field of spaceflight and missile. The early production need not measure the principal axis. And due to the particularity of the application range, the equipment and technology of the principal axis of inertia measurement is kept in secret. So it is reported by very limited literature.With the development of the technology, the quality and precision of the production directly influence the principle axis of the inertia. Therefore the measurement becomes very important.This paper does some research on the theory and the technology of the principle axis of the inertia measurement to develop our weapon. The main achievement will be enumerated in the following paragraph.According to the character of the principle axis of the inertia, its position can be denoted by two variables that one is the product moment of inertia and the other is the moment of inertia. On the base of it, the paper introduces the equipment for measuring the principle axis of inertia. The equipment includes the dynamic balance measurement unit and the moment of inertia measurement unit.Based on the analysis of the theory and technology, a torsion bar mechanism is adopted to measure the moment of inertia, which has good elasticity, largeaccumulated energy characteristic, high fatigue strength resistance, a large range, high accuracy and so on. Through the detailed engineering design, calculation, error analysis, a large range and high accuracy measurement of the moment of inertia is realized.The product moment of inertia measurement can be realized by the technology of the dynamic balance. Therefore it is very nearly correlative with the technology of the dynamic balance. But the measuring process and the request are not incompletely same. The technology of the dynamic balance mostly pies attention to the balance accuracy of the equipment. But the principle axis of inertia measurement cares the product moment of inertia. That is, the unbalance decrement.Based on the detailed analysis of the vibration performance of the dynamic balance, the paper discusses the detailed engineering design and calculation for the vibration frame and sensor of the dynamic balance measurement unit. This paper also describes the technology and design of the detection and processing of unbalance signal. Accordingly the high accuracy measurement is realized.The experiment proves that the measuring method and project is feasible and it can realize the measurement of the principal axis of inertia.
