It is very important for weapon products to take the measurement of parameters about the mass properties, and relevant equipment develops as the product grow .When the slender bar such as rocket projectiles and fish torpedoes are measured, there are problems of installation and safety, especially for very long ones. Based on analysis and comparison of the mature measuring methods of mass properties at home and abroad, a new way which can avoid the upright installation in the measurement of the slender bar's parameters about the mass properties is studied in this article. And a horizontal technique to measure the parameters about the mass properties of the slender bar was formed.This article introduces the basic principle of the measurement of parameters about the mass properties, and also introduces several common measuring methods. Proper measurement principles were selected for the equipment's layout according to the measuring requirements of slender bars. By analyzing and comparing several common measuring methods of moment of inertia, we found the gist of the measurement principles about the problems of axial moment of inertia measurement. On the basis of it, two methods are put forward to realize the horizontal measurement of axial moment of inertia, which are the method of the compound pendulum and the method of the compound pendulum driven by the torsional pole. Both methods were proven feasible after theoretical analysis. And two sets of equipment were built according to it. By analyzing of experimental date and the structure, we concluded that the compound pendulum driven by the torsional pole is a method which is data-steady,credible and reasonable . It is an effective method of slender bars' axial moment of inertia measurement.On the basis of the key technique, and aiming at the measurement application of the slender bar, relevant structures were designed according to the theory, and an integrated measuring equipment come into being. The errors of every measure item are discussed in detail, an effective method of errors-reduction has been put forward. After taking the debugging, the inertia moment of the standard body was measured on the equipment, and the error analysis shows that the equipment satisfies the designed precision. The equipment has come into operation and operates normally till now.
