Environmental Non-governmental Organizations And The United Nations

As the global environmental problems deteriorating day by day, the existence and development of human beings face grave threats and "challenges. Therefore, how to deal with the environmental problems spanning borders and regions attracts the attention and anxiety of the whole world, and becomes one focus among the hot political issues. Since the environment degeneration of the earth is a common problem place in front of every country, in order to protect ourselves and our descendants; the international society has no choice but to act immediately and cooperate with each other for the common interests of all the human beings.Taking on the responsibility of maintaining the peace and security of the whole world, the United Nations plays a leading role in solving environmental problems. It has done lots of works and carried out series of activities to protect the environment, which fully presents its functions besides accomplishing fruitful achievements. However, with the trend of globalization, solving environmental problems must surmount the traditional boundary of "international" and "national" politics, and need the participation of all kinds of forces.Nowadays, the Non-governmental Organizations suddenly rise among all the new international actors, acting more and more actively, and become important forces in world affairs. Especially the environmental ncn-governmental organizations (ENGOs) are crucial forces in solving global environmental problems. Their participation has promoted and will continue to promote the solving of environmental problems.This thesis will probe into the relationship between the ENGOs and the UN from a wider angle of view. Starting with the introduction of the status quo and main activities of ENGOs, this thesis discusses the origin of ENGOs, their development process and reasons. Besides elaborating the connections of ENGOs and the UN concerning legal documents, mechanism systems and personnel, this thesis also analysis the functions and effect the ENGOs play under the UN framework with typical examples. What's more, this thesis will also present the existing problems within this relationship, and put forward some suggestions corresponding with the trend forecasted.
