Desertfication is one of the most serious environmental and social economy problems which faced by the whole world and cared by international societies. Because MODIS data shows some advantages, such as high time-resolution, continuity and low-cost, this article use MODIS Satellite Data and NOAA-NDVI which are downloaded from www.usgs.gov, as data source to study the pretreating method of MODIS data, as well as the distill methods of desertification information from MODIS and NOAA-NDVI data, besides, the actual desertification conditions of Ebinur Lake area and the changes in recent two years and past eleven years are also analysied. From the desertification monitoring of Ebinur Lake area, we found desertification become more serious from 2002 to 2004. The very many micro desertficated region transforms into the mild desertficated, but the original mild desertfication region transforms into the moderate desertfication, and the farmland area has the increase. After analysis, this mainly due to the precipitation in 2004 is less than 1/5 in 2002, so the desertification become aggravating. Meanwhile compared with 1993 and 2004 we found weight and the moderate desertfication area are decreasing, The fact that desertification situations have changed to good direction shows people has become to realize the importance of ecological environment gradually and has took some measures actively. The results show this article uses distill desertfication method and the rank target is conforms with the Ebinur Lake area actual situation. And in nearly period of time, we can study the Ebinur Lake area and the Xinjiang's desertfication condition and the change with this method , This method has the lowest cost compared with other methods and high accuracy, so it is very feasible.
