According to the experience of comprehensive utilization and production of red iron oxide, the innovation of pretreating cyanide tailings by the way of oxygenation and using urea to precipitate ferrous sulfate homogeneously to produce red iron oxide which particle is less than 100nm is advanced. Study the pretreatment of cyanide tailings from Penglai gold smelting plant and make the optimal processing condition of cyanide tailings' pretreatment and red iron oxide' s production.The best factors of pretreatment of cyanide tailings are as follows. Initial temperature of oxygenation is 80°C, initial concentration of nitric acid is 30%, feed proportioning (nitric acid and cyanide tailings mass ratio) is 3:1, oxygenation time (reaction time after charging cyanide tailings) is 30min. On this condition, oxidation rate is 90.06% and pyrite in tailings has been oxygenated availably. Oxidation sludge is delivered to extract gold.In the course of purging pretreatment liquid with scrap iron, the best factors are that reaction temperature is 40°C, reaction time is 60min, MFe:MFe3+ (MFe3+ expresses ferric ion' s mass of oxygenation filtrate) is 1:1. After the phase is over, reduction percent of ferric ion is 100%, rate of displacement of copper is 91.2%, rate of displacement of silver is 96.9% and arsenic and led have been removed.Reaction temperature is 15°C around, PH value of solution is 910, amount of air is 0.1m3/h and density of ferrous sulfate are the best factors in the course of production of inoculating crystal. Tartaric acid is adopted by way of dispersant and its quantity is 1% of amount of ferrous sulfate. When reaction temperature is 8085°C, PH value of solution is 34, quantity of air is 0.14m3/h, molar ratio of urea and ferrous sulfate is 3. 5:1, pure red iron oxide is generated. Add DBS to the solution and stir homogeneously.
