With the rapid development of the modern industry, many fateful accidents arisen continually from industry fire and explosion. If the fire happens for the tank which is one of major hazard installations of industry, person casualty and loss of property will occur. The tank fire is a typical kind of pool fire. In the past decades, many scholars carry out a lot of work on the characteristic of burning, mechanism, physical characteristics and disaster simulation calculation of indoor and outdoor pool fire. Most research focuses on burning process, fire behavior and thermal radiation of flame. It is essential to study the condition of pool fire, which can provide theoretical instruction for prevention and control of tank accident. In this thesis, the research on this topic is conducted as following.The database of the pool fire is established by referring to the literatures and extracting the experimental and simulation results.On the base of the study done by predecessor, combining the experiment of small-scale oil tanks fire, some important parameters of the research on pool fire are analyzed, such as flame height, environment speed, diameter of pool fire and flame height. And the thermal radiation of pool fire is divided to three instances: one tank fire, the tank far from pool fire and tank enveloped by pool fire. The results are obtained and analyzed respectively.The numerical simulation for pool fire is studied. The model for diffusion combustion is used, and the product of combustion and temperature field are simulated by probability density function (PDF); Discrete transport radiation model ( DTRM ) and k-s turbulence model are used to simulate radiation and flow field respectively; The situations of horizontal tank and vertical tank exposed to pool fire under wind or windless conditions are simulated respectively. The radiation and total surface heat flux to target tanks are-calculated.Comparison of the results by simulating and relation model to the experiment ones shows good agreement. On the basis, primary influencing factors on pool fire are simulated and analyzed by FLUENT.The safety distance on pool fire condition are calculated according to the destroy rule of thermal radiation. The prevention and control counter-measures of tank accident are studied, at the same time the effect, proper condition and disadvantages of it are analyzed.
