Spiral bevel gears are widely used in mechanical products as these kinds of gears have quite many merits such as the big overlap ratio, the high loading capacity, the stability of transmitting, the small sensitivity toward setting error, the small noise, and so on. At present, with the development of sewing equipments, electric tools and mechanical instruments, the demand of transmission quality for these products is higher, so the small-modulus spiral bevel gears are widely used. Although china has a great demand for the small-modulus spiral bevel gears, these kinds of gears made in our country have lower transmission precision and quality and can't make the need of high quality of products. The cutter and cutting machine parameters should be selected soundly in order to produce the small-modulus spiral bevel gears which have high transmission quality. However, as a result of the calculation and regulation error of cutting machine, the spiral bevel gears that are produced by cutting once are difficult in attaining good contact and transmission quality. Therefore, it is necessary to simulate the transmission of real gears and then to find optimal cutter and cutting machine parameters. Because of the special cut method of small-modulus spiral bevel gears, its contact and parameters regulation schemes must be studied. The tooth flank equations of a pair of gears are established in this paper according to the machining process of small-modulus spiral bevel gears, then the principle of Tooth Contact Analysis (TCA) is discussed. On the basic of this principle, TCA program is compiled by Matlab language. At last, the TCA result of a pair of small-modulus spiral bevel gears is given by this program. Besides, according to evaluation standards of contact and transmission quality, contact path and transmission error curve are analyzed when one of the cutting parameters is changed. In the end, the old parameters are modified and the new parameters are obtained, the original contact and transmission quality is optimized.
