| Different eco-environment problem consist in different stage of development because of the irreversibility in urban development process. Suburbanization is one of the important stages in the process of urbanization and has become a new tendency for city expansion in china since 1980s. The development of suburbanization has great significance for realizing the mutual harmonization and sustainable development of urban population, economy, social and environment. But this process brought out a series of new eco-environment problems; it made the whole city's eco-environment facing great effect. Therefore, it is very necessary to study further on eco-environment problems and its effects on urban sustainable development coming from suburbanization course.Taking Xi'an as example, starting with two keys of discussing suburbanization course and eco-environmen character, throughing two means' combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis, based on summarizing the interactional rules between urbanization and eco-environment, this paper analyzes and discusses the impacts on eco-environment when urbanization course comes into suburbanization process. Furthermore, integrating with practice of Xi'an city's development, based on sustainable development of eco-environment, this paper suggests several countermeasures to solve or weaken the question impacted by suburbanization on urban eco-environment of Xi'an. The conclusions may provide scientific reference to exactly decide for urban planning branch of Xi'an and offer theoretically reference to frame, amend, and perfect regional development plan and environmental protection plan.Through the study of these facets, we find that:(1) The study zones of urban suburbanization in Xi'an can be defined according to the central city zone (City-core and Inner-city), Sub-urban and Ex-urban; Suburbanization in Xi'an started from 1990s; it is relative suburbanization process and belongs to nearby suburbanization at present.(2) The eco-environment character of Xi'an is that the change of eco-environment quality takes on some repetitions; the dust density, the sewage and household refuse output will increase continuously before 2010 year according to forecast; the plow land decrease rapidly, whereas the transportation land and the residential and industrial mining land increase rapidly about land landscape patterns.(3) The coupling mechanism of intimidation and restriction between urbanizationand eco-environment is existent. The turning point of eco-environment quality in Xi'an will come true round about 2015 when the level of economic development is up to 4500 US dollars about the GDP per capita and the urbanization level is about 48 percent. The coupling course between urbanization and eco-environment is still at resisting stage when urbanization comes into suburbanization process in Xi'an.(4) There is some relativity in the coupling course between suburbanization and eco- environment of Xi'an: The flood tide of environment quality has the outward process trend with the outward process of the flood tide of population density. The ebb and flow of environment quality in every zones is directly corresponding with the ebb and flow impacted by suburbanization; the land landscape patterns take on the diversity and equality indexes increasing rapidly, whereas the superiority index decreasing rapidly in the zones of population mostly moving.(5) The appearing of suburbanization phenomenon has both good and bad effects on the development of cities. The effective measures that scientific planning city, reasoned using land reasource and strengthen the construce of infrastructure construction in the suburbs etc. should be taken to lead suburbanization reasonable in order to reduce mostly the bad effects which are caused by suburbanization development.
