Nowadays, researches on the physiological active substances from the marine tunicates are in a high speed progress. But it has not been reported that some tunicate extracts which have high effective anticancer potential are obtained from Styela clava's tunica or body. And the research work carried on Styela clava in homeland is rarely reported. There are lots of tunicates in our country especially coastal areas in Shandong province. Comparing with the overseas, the resources greatly disturbed the cultivation and sailing, not mention they are utilized. Therefore we should pay attention to them. In this paper, we made a basic research on the physiological active substances from Styela clava stated below. First, Styela clava's tunica and its body were separated carefully so that interaction among some substances was prevented. According to the frequently used methods of extraction and isolation of natural products from organic body, the freeze-dried ascidians'bodies were exhaustively extracted with methanol: toluene (3:1), then the combined extracts were filtered and the solvent was concentrated under vacuum. The concentrate then was partitioned with 1M NaNO3. The aqueous phase was collected and extracted with chloroform. Then the chloroform extract was concentrated under vacuum to yield a red-brown gum. This material was partitioned with 5% NaHCO3 ,Na2CO3 ,NaOH in turn. After concentration and freeze dried, the three extracts were respectively named Pâ… ,Pâ…¡,Pâ…¢. Then Pâ… ,Pâ…¡were respectively isolated by polyamide...
