Die casting is an important method in manufacturing the precise parts in material processing engineering. As a critical equipment in die casting process, the die casting mould directly determines the quality and the productivity of the products. Its design course is a complicated engineering, during which the devisers have to inquire about enormous parametric data, calculate and check up many data and draw a large numbers of drawings. So the schedule of mould design will be postponed and the veracity of mould is going to be affected if the design only depends on traditional methods. The thesis has studied the conditions above and developed a CAD system of die casting mould. This system has provided an effective tool in designing die casting mould for mechanical engineers. By using this system, the designer can accomplish the design duty conveniently and quickly according to the common design workflow of die casting mould. Then the work intension will be greatly alleviated, the design schedule can be shorted and the reliability of the result can be improved.According to the characteristic of secondary development, the peculiarity of die casting mould, method of parameterization design and technology of interactive interface of system was intensively studied, also the selection of exploitation tools and integrated exploitation platform was discussed and researched. On these bases, using the technology of parameterization design, functional modularization, asecondary integrated developing platform which was developed with the help of the famous 3-D CAD software — Pro/ENGINEER. The CAD system have been programmed by Visual C++6.0 and based on database technology.Compared with other CAD systems, this system has four advantages as follows: 1) It has build 3-D model library and when users choose different parameter of the model, the system can drawing the 3-D pictures of standard mould shelf or common components automatically. 2) It can check up or transfer standard 3-D mould shelf, as far as the mould shelf that not in standard concerned, designer can design it by himself in the system. 3) The system can finish the complicated calculating task and then fulfill the demand of die-casting mould design, thus the efficiency can be greatly increased. 4) the management of figures in the system fit with the Visual C ++6.0 completely, users can develop it in their own fields.It is shown that the CAD system developing on the basis of Pro/ENGINEER by using Pro/TOOLKIT and Microsoft VC++6.0 can accomplish the 3-D parameterization design of die casting mould. Windows resources and visual programming environments such as MFC were sufficiently utilized to accomplish the design of dialog interface. All these can greatly raise the efficiency of the CAD system. The consequence has shown that this system of die-casting mould developed by the author can help calculating ^ design and drawing. After being debugged and running, it is up to design desire and able to realize computer-aided design and drawing of die-casting mould. As a result, efficiency and reliability of design are capable of gaining great improvement. Owing to adapting up-to-date software developing tools, the CAD system has strong extensibility and a wide worthiness of application and popularization.
