Self-elevating drilling platforms play an important role in the reconnoitering and the exploitation of offshore oil fields. But with the advancement of offshore oil industry, the earlier self-elevating drilling platform can't function well to satisfy the demands of the development of offshore oil reconnoitering and exploitation. They should be upgraded to be able to function as well as possible.In this article, I will give an example of Shengli 8 drilling platform to demonstrate self-elevating drilling platform upgrading scheme and study the feasibility of scheme from the stability and structure intensity.First, the aim of upgrading rig which is to resume the drilling function is brought up according to the market demand and the conditions of Shengli 8.Second, according to the up grading aim, the detail designing scheme is brought up, which consist of the structure, machines, electrical system, engine and system distributing.Third, the result of calculating the stability from the states of sailing, overturning and cabin broken demonstrates upgrading scheme accord with the stability request.Fourth, calculating the structure intensity from the states of working, full load and storm, the results indicate the structure intensity satisfies the criterion.It indicates that Shengli 8 drilling platform's upgrading scheme is scientific and feasible by analysis and research. By upgrading, it not only can improve quickly platform's constructing ability, but also has an excellent economic value.
