Vicat apparatus is a kind of testing instrument, used for measuring cement coagulation time which is one of the crucial parameters of cement performance. But at home the technical level about cement coagulation time is much low, basically remaining the level of manual operating. In this testing method, not only high labor intensity will be needed, but also will the man-made factors greatly affect on the testing results. Although automatic Vicat apparatus has been appearing, achieving the automatization of testing course, this method don't fit the testing standard; testing results analysised and gained by workers are affected by man-made factors; instrument couldn't satisfy the demand for temperature and humidity of cement coagulation time. So, to develop full automatic Vicat apparatus with the characters of fitting the testing standard, convenient operation, the high testing precision and auto-analyzing and computing the testing results, will be valuable to improve the automatic level and testing quality of cement testing. This paper presents the comparative analysis of working principle and performance character between existing manual Vicat apparatus and automatic Vicat apparatus, pointing out the existing shortages and problem in dire need of solving. On the basis, following researches have been carried out: Corresponding mechanism has been designed, imitated manual testing. Mechatronics technology has been adopted to realize the mensuration course autoimmunization of coagulation time. While overseas automatic Vicat apparatus can't truly measure the inserting depth of testing pin, the technology of searching the right point automatically and modern sensor technology have been advanced for the first time to apply to the measuring of testing pin'inserting depth. Because of the design of searching the right point automatically decvice and installation design of Capacitance-grate displacement transducers, accurate mensuration has been achieved for each inserting depth of testing pin. Relatively to coagulation time tested on overseas automatic Vicat apparatus which is gained through manual analyses, data automatic analysis and disposal have been put forward. Via software design, the dates gathered by sensor will be timely analyzed, which can realize the testing'automatic end and increase testing efficiency. Through automatically analyzing and computing of dates, precise mensuration of the cement initial coagulation time and final coagulation time has been come true. In this way so-called full automatic Vicat apparatus has come into being. Considering the disadvantage that many cement samples couldn't be carried out at the same time on single full automatic Vicat apparatus, extended design has been adopted, namely the research of large-scale full automatic Vicat apparatus. Used mechanism design, many cement samples can be processed synchronously and cost of apparatus will be reduced to the utmost extent. Connected with the PC, this equipment possesses of more functions. This apparatus successfully developed not only fills up the domestic blank but also precedes the overseas automatic Vicat apparatus in technology, whereas its price is only as one-thirds as overseas automatic Vicat apparatus. It will delegate the solving scheme of the most advanced economy in ordinary laboratory as well as satisfy the demands of vast users.
