The modeling theories used in environment currently are all based on the classical mathematic theories which regard the influencing factors as smooth and gradual ,while they are incapable when dealing with the catastrophes. Catastrophe theory is exactly a theory aiming at studying the catastrophe, which supplies a general method for dealing with jumping variance, discontinuous and outburst qualitative change. Actually, like any other field, there exist a lot of catastrophes in the field of environment. However, because of the abstruse symbolic logic and complex formula contained in catastrophe theory, it is seldom used for the research of environmental problems, whereas, this paper introduce the catastrophe theory into the field of environment modeling for the first time. Using catastrophe theory, The paper develop research on three aspects: analyzing the information of environment catastrophe hidden behind the environmental statistical datum; constructing model to evaluate the sustainable development level of a certain region; bringing forward a modeling method by combining system dynamic, catastrophe and multi-objective programming. As the only theory on catastrophe, catastrophe theory isn't restricted to finding out the abstruse feedback mechanism, it usually starts it research with analyzing the controlling factors of catastrophe which simplifies the research. Consequently introducing catastrophe into the field of environment modeling is of practical value as well as theoretic significance.
