With the industrial modernization process, the traditional communication method based on signals sources will be replaced by the fieldbus network technology. Now days, many industrial instruments and equipments connect to their high-level controllers through the serial interface, instead of high-speed communications protocol through the fieldbus network. Therefore, the research and development of a device, which is capable to configure the existing equipments into certain fieldbus, will improve the intellectualization progress and application of fieldbus technology in China.The depth indictor is an essential instruction instrument in the mine lift system, and its function is to show real-time position of mine skip and the state of shaft switches. This thesis introduces the development process of the depth indictor with PROFIBUS-DP interface, presents a new type of conversion circuits that is able to perform data transmission between serial port and fieldbus communication protocol.Firstly, PROFIBUS technology, mainly on the analysis of the PROFIBUS-DP protocol and its structure, is studied. On this basis, several approaches to achieve PROFIBUS-DP agreement are discussed.Secondly, taking into account the practical requirements of the mine lift projects, the development and design of the depth indictor with PROFIUBS-DP interface is introduced, which is implemented utilizing the ANYBUS-IC.This indictor has an intelligent module AnyBus-IC that is able to receive data from PROFIBUS-DP as communication processor, convert the data to serial data and send them to SCM. The SCM processes and analyses data, display the useful part data. The indictor can be used in a PROFIBUS-DP network as a slave point, providing strong support for the safety of mine production.ANYBUS-IC supports multiple fieldbus. Moreover, it has standardized mechanical size, electrical design and software interfaces. The designed PROFIBUS-DP communication interface presented in this thesis can provide a set of reference solutions for other converters between different fieldbus networks. This work has the profound and lasting value for the application and promotion of fieldbus technology.
