Fabrics made of micro-fiber have been proved to be of excellent cleaning effectssince their micro-fiber, compared with normal fiber, has the nature of finer linear density, huge specific surface and no fiber lost. Fabrics made of micro-fiber have now been accepted in a large scale as cleaning cloth. Meanwhile the research on splitting rate of micro-fiber, cleaning mechanism of micro-fiber fabric and evaluating system of cleaning efficiency are rarely reported.In this paper, the comprehensive evaluating systems on splitting rate of PET/PA6 composite micro-fiber and cleaning effects of cleaning products made of micro-fiber were separately established. On the base of optimized micro-fiber splitting process technique, the study on cleaning mechanism and efficiency of fabric made of micro-fiber was carried out. With help of established fuzzy mathematical comprehensive evaluating system, the cleaning effect of different cleaning cloths and mops were evaluated.Selected micro-fiber yarns took from fabric were cut into slices, then the cross sections of micro-fiber were magnified and observed through optical microscope and cross-section picture was got by digital cameral. The fiber splitting rate can be figure out from pictures of their sliced cross section. The virtual value of splitting rate can be obtained by integrally calculating with Matlab 7.0 program. It is the first time to evaluate the splitting rate with the concepts of gap-splitting rate and dislocated-splitting rate, and create a new way to determine the splitting status of the micro-fiber.By using orthogonal experiment method, the splitting effect of micro-fiber was comprehensively evaluated in the aspects of fiber weight reducing rate, water absorption and fiber loss. And the optimized alkali splitting process condition for micro-fiber was considered as 5 g/L NaOH, 110℃ and 45 min. The mechanical action in the alkali treatment can promote the splitting progress of micro-fiber, while the tested assistantagents show no any beneficial effect to the splitting.In the cleaning effect testing on micro-fiber, a series new method, such as fiber loss test with fabric strength testing machine, oil removing test with rubbing color fastness test machine, water absorption test with dip-pad and bacteria removing test, were adopted. All the comprehensive test results show that t fabrics made of micro-fiber have excellent cleaning properties.The cleaning effect evaluating results on cleaning products made of micro-fiber indicate that cleaning property of micro-fiber fabrics is much better than that of cotton fabrics. And the cleaning effect of the fabric made of sea-island micro-fiber is the best among different fabrics made of micro-fiber. The evaluating results on mops made of micro-fiber also show that when the construction of yarn and weaving texture in mop fabric is the same, the cleaning effect of mop can be enhanced by increase the yarn density or micro-fiber content in its surface fabric.
