The protection of water quality is becoming one of the most important issues all over the world. The urgent conditions of protecting water quality bring up more highly requirements for monitoring water quality as well as for prediction and management of water quality.This paper has taken it into account the demand of realizing water quality monitoring in the wider and more complex regions efficiently. Based on the knowledge about today's systems of water quality auto-monitoring and management at home and abroad,the auther has made some preliminary research in this field and designed a water quality auto-monitoring system with GPS, GSM and embedding technology in this paper. At the same time this paper also introduced the water quality prediction algorithm by BP neutral network and then show the reader a concrete example applied to realization.Water quality auto-monitoring system is commonly gigantic and complex,which consists of remote water quality auto-monitoring terminal and the monitoring center of water quality. In the first place the hardware of control system of water quality auto-monitoring terminal has been designed,and some main drive functions used in the terminal control system have been discussed in details.Then some essential principles of positioning by GPS have been illustrated in this paper and the software flowchart of positioning using B12 has been described out. And with the characters of TC35I GSM terminal,this paper drawed detailedly the software flowchart of realizing SMS which set up the communication in water quality auto-monitoring system.Water quality prediction is the base of scheme, estimation and management of water quality.Lastly,this paper introduced the water quality prediction algorithm by the BP artificial neural network together with the realization of the algorithm using Matlab.Moreover,a method to realize water quality prediction algorithm based on Matlab Web Server is put forward here.This paper also introduced in the last place both the principle and configuration of this plan,and illuminated how the software worked with several examples including examples of data's transfer and examples of functions in Matlab Web Server and how to out put prediction.The technology of water quality auto-monitoring and prediction researched inthis paper will contribute to the application of the auto-monitoring engineerings the realization of real-time monitoring of water quality,remote control and water quality prediction. It will be useful to construct a highly automatized,informationized decision support system to support auto-monitoring water quality and decision,auto-acquiring water quality data,the monitoring of water quality at terminals, analysis of the water quality and decision monitoring center,for the correlative departments,such as environment protection,hydrology,water conservancy,etc.
