In China, CNC machines have enjoyed fast development in recent years in the direction of "High speed, high accuracy, high efficiency and high combination". The increasing malfunction rate due to increasing machine complexity makes fault diagnosis of the CNC machines by ordinary maintenance personnel more and more difficult, which therefore limits the application of CNC machines to a certain extent and causes economic losses for the users. Meanwhile the development of computer networking technology has made Internet-based remote fault diagnosis of the CNC machines possible.The CAK series CNC machine is one of the most widely used with the largest units in active service. This paper develops the technology and software package for Internet-based remote fault diagnosis of CAK series CNC machines. The "Browser/Server" realization mode has been chosen after comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the various realization modes of the remote fault diagnosis systems, such as the "Client/Server" mode, the "Browser/Server" mode, etc. The operating principles and several kinds of key technology of the "Browser/Server" mode is analyzed and discussed. The system software platform has been presented in the aspects of operating system, database server, and server software and the Win2000Server+SqlServer+â…¡s5.0 has been selected for the software platform.the multifunctional hardware setup and data management plan for the Internet-based remote fault diagnosis of the CNC machines is designed based on the selection of the remote fault diagnosis modes, so that both the needs of advanced users for real time monitoring and fault diagnosis and that of common users for remote fault diagnosis has been met. The operating status of the machines can be examined in real time on the internet and the data of the malfunctioned machines can be sent to experts or remote expert systems for diagnosis. An expert system for fault diagnosis of CNC machines has been developed. By extracting and classifying the causes and features of CAK series CNC machines, the rule base and reasoning methods are set up. The remote fault diagnosis software package for CNC machines is developed with BORLAND C++ language and the remote monitoring and fault diagnosis ofCNC machines are realized. As a result the real time diagnosis accuracy of the CNC machines is improved considerably. After the system has been put on trial run at the customer service of the Shenyang No. 1 Machine tool Works, the transmission of data is done on the internet and good economic benefits to the enterprise is achieved.
