Application Of Fluorescent Whitening Agent In Plastics

Fluorescent whitening agent (FWA) can improve the whiteness of plastics by means of absorbing UV then emitting visual blue light. The research in developing new structure of FWA was paid too much attention to, less in FWA application in the past. In this study, it is researched that some basic problems come from the application of FWA in plastics, which discover rules of it to apply FWA in plastics better.The physical and chemical characters of FWA influence the dispersing state of it in plastics, furthermore its whitening effect. TEM, phase microscope and particle size analysis were used to research the conformation of FWA OB and OB-1 and their microstate in PP. The results indicate that the dispersion of FWA in PP is smashing course from agglomerates to aggregates. FWA exist in plastic include two parts: one part dissolve in plastic, the other exists in form of aggregates or agglomerates.Influences on whitening effect of Fluorescent Whitening Agent in PP, ABS, LDPE were researched by whiteness that spectrometer measure on injecting plastic plates.
