The NiFe2O4 base cermet is a kind of new composite materials, is at present one of most popular engineering materials. In view of its properties: chemical stability, anti-corrosion, the wearability, thermostable, and so on, it is widespread applicated in aluminum electrolysis industry as inert anode. This thesis mainly deals with cermet--based inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis. Because cermet has good anti--corrosion like ceramic and good electric conductivity and good machine capability like alloy, the cermet inert electrode material is made with the NiFe2O4 ceramics as the substrate and the Cu powder as the electric conduction component by the process of powder metallurgy.The preparation of the NiFe2O4 base cermet inert anode is studied in the paper, and the NiFe2O4 base cermet inert anode is comprehensively researched. It discusses the problem which may occur in the process of shaping and sintering of cermet material Through DTA-TG and X-ray analyses. The relationship between the structure of NiFe2O4 base cermet inert anode and the property of the anode is studied through SEM, EDX and metallographic analyses.And The electrical conductivity of the inert anode is studied . In view of the fact that inert anode is difficulty to large-scale, and the problem was few revolved in many studies. In order to meeting the need of the current aluminum industry, the mechanical properties of the inert anode is studied in the paper for adapting to the mechanism of machinability.Besides, how to resolve the anode large-scale is initially discussed.
