Studies On The Ecosystem Services Of Xixi Wetland, Hangzhou

In recent years, research on ecosystem services has been taken into account with the intensification of global eco-environment problem, which is one of the hottest topic in ecology and ecological economics. The meaning and value assessment are the hotspot and difficulty of research on ecosystem services currently. The urban wetland is very important for the sustainable development of city. However, the value of ecosystem services of urban wetland was not paid attention, which induced the deterioration of environment of urban wetland. So, it is important to valuate ecosystem services of urban wetland. Xixi wetland, which locates in the west of Hangzhou city, is a typical urban wetland in China. The research on ecosystem services of Xixi wetland is necessary for the study of urban wetland. The ecosystem services of Xixi wetland were analyzed and valuated in this article. The main results are as follows:(1) Analysis of the main types and of ecosystem services of Xixi wetlandBased on the location and exploiture of Xixi wetland, ecosystem services were analyzed. The results showed that there were three main types of ecosystem services, including production function, ecological function and information function, in Xixi wetland. Each type of ecosystem services can also be further classified. For example, ecological function was fractionized as waste treatment, gas regulation, flood control, water storage and habitats for species. Information function was fractionized as entertainment function, research and education function, existence value and choice value. Moreover, each function of Xixi wetland was depicted particularly in this article.(2) Assessment of ecosystem services of Xixi wetlandThe value of ecosystem services of Xixi wetland was assessed through many methods, which included market method, shadow engineering method, travel cost method, contingent valuation method and so on. The results showed that the total value of Xixi wetland ecosystem services was 524.43 million RMB per year and the value of production function, ecological function and information function were 13.75 million RMB per year, 51.93 million RMB per year and 458.75 million RMB per year respectively. It is clear that ecosystem services of Xixi wetland were dominated by the information function, which accounted for 87% of the total value.
