Components were complex in coke-oven wastewater, in which contains high concentration of different bio-degraded organic compounds and toxic substance and high strength ammonia. Because of the severely higher concentration of nitrogen than standard, the effluent of coke plant contaminated environment system in our country. Generally speaking, biological nitrogen removal (BNR) is the most economical and effective method to remove nitrogen from municipal wastewater and some industry wastewater in present. Based on the characteristic of coke-oven wastewater and current treatment process in our country, ASBR—SBR two - stage SBR technology to treat coke-oven wastewater for biological nitrogen removal was studied deeply and systematically in this paper.
