The parallel machine tool (PMT) is a new kind of machine tool developed in 1990s, Compared with traditional machine tools, PMTs have such priories as high stiffness weight ratio, high response rate, high adaptability to circumstance and high additional technology value etc. And they have a very vast application vista in industry. Along with the technical development in computer, the design of parallel machine tool more and more tends to the integral whole design in CAD/CAM/CAE. The finite element technique is applied to conduct to the machine structural design, and to satisfy the request in stiffness and strength of the machine. Besides the result can reduce the weight of the machine, made them be lighter. The research object of this paper is 3-TPT parallel machine tool was made by Advanced Manufacturing & Automation Institute, Northeastern University; the design drawing is drawn in Solidworks that is used to draw 3D drawing. And then it was channeled to the software of ANSYS to modify to fit software. On the basis of the different working position three finite element models were built, and respectively was processed analysis of static and mode. The details of studies are as follows:(1) This paper narrates the purpose and meaning of project, review the developing history of parallel machine tool. And briefly sum up basic thinking of finite element and application. Introduce the function and characteristic of ANSYS.(2) The paper narrates the application of finite element method on parallel machine tool in detail, built stress and strain equation of 3D finite element and element stiffness matrix, so establish foundation for finite element model of parallel machine tool. And research the method of build the model.(3) This paper analyzes the characteristic when parallel machine tool bearing static force. Process force analysis of PMT by applying ANSYS and get the result, then analyzes the law of the stress distribution.(4) This paper process finite element stiffness analysis according to theory get the deformation result, and compare two mechanisms when the PMT have the...
