Modular machine tools are developed from universal machine tools and special machine tools. They are low cost, high efficiency and extensive used in volume production. After the CAD technology had been extensive used in mechanical design, in the design of modular machine tools also widely used the CAD technology, but the traditional CAD technology can't give the intelligent support during the design. Nowadays, as the theoretical investigation and application of intelligent CAD become more mature, and the intelligent CAD systems for other machine design and manufacture fields were appeared, the application of intelligent CAD is appealed in the design of modular machine tools to improve the design efficiency and design level of the modular machine tools.The exploitation of the intelligent CAD system for the modular machine tool spindle box has been discussed in this paper. And a new method is proposed for the exploitation with the application of CLIPS, Visual C++ 6.0, Access and ObjectARX.The paper made a thorough discussion to the export system of the intelligent design system, embedded the CLIPS program into the Visual C++ 6.0 environment and carried out the mixed programming, established partially Knowledge Base of the spindle box with CLIPS. Using VC, Access and ObjectARX, realized the data communication, data access, graph processing and the user interface of intelligence CAD system.Moreover, the whole frame of the intelligent design system was marked out, and much research was done on the designing and realizing methods. All of the work has instructional and reference value to the further research and application.
