Abstracts: A high temperature BTU pusher furnace, an automatic and continuous one imported from the USA, is used for sintering UO2 pellets, which consists of the conveying section, driving section, entrance vestibule/door, processing chamber, cooling area, exit vestibule channel/door, and etc. The temperature and gas fulx of the pusher furnace are controlled by the Upper Computer, which is composed of a Furnace Control Unit (FCU) and a computer running a control software named Wincon on a Windows operating system. The motion of each pushers, entrance /exit doors and flasher curtain are controlled by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) as the Lower Computer.Because the BTU pusher furnace was not made in China, it has been very difficult and inconvenient for the user to get wanted materials of technical supporting, to set the parameters of the furnace, to buy fittings needed and get required technical services. It also results in big difficulties for the operating and repairing of the furnace. Since the furnace was imported in 2000, there have been many times of function failures with the integration circuit of the Furnace Control Unit. And the wide fluctuation range of the over-temperature alarming limit often leads to false alarms. Further more, it's very inconvenient for the operators to work because the software is not in Chinese operators. These question have been broad the biggish influence for natural production of plant,Therefore, it's quite necessary to upgrade the control system of the furnace.Work in this paper started from the design of the RS-485 bus and the control process of Industrial Personal Computer(IPC) ,According to design principles of system hardware.
