With the production automation degree improvement in the metallurgical industry, different process control systems are universally adopted in the production process. The Thin-slab-caster computer control system is a typical one among those, which joint with the caster basic automation system (Level1) and plant production management system (Level3), making the production information system and basic automation system integrative. This process control system (Level2) plays a non-substitutive and indispensability role in improving the quality of products. To develop the enterprise’s competition ability, the leader of the Tonghua Iron&Steel Corporation (hereinafter "TISCO") made a decision that the process control system should be applied to the ultra thin slab caster and rolling mill plant. That’s the reason why this system was built.This system is based on Three Tier Client/Server Architecture with Clients accessing a Server to save/retrieve technological and production data and to interact with the calculation models, designed with oracle Database and Delphi developing software. It communicates with the basic automation system, Ladle Furnace, Laboratory, Rolling Mill and Level3system to achieve its function:Thin Slab Caster production plan management, process data collection, visualization and analysis, machine status tracking, and quality control etc.. This process control system can enormously develop technologists’working efficiency, minimize the workload for the operators and makes the information interact among different departments higher meticulous.Firstly, this thesis introduces the background and aim of developing this process control system in TISCO project. And then, the function aim and design principle of this system is described based on demand analysis. The design part comes on the global design scheme from three ways:demand analysis, global system structure and the way of how to implement it. The function design and database design are explained in detail. The implementation part presents the ways of how to implement every module in this system. Finally, the performance test is given in this thesis; this process control system is proved that all the tasks listed in the demand analysis can be reached perfectly. Experience in this project is also summarized, and next improvement program is pointed out.
