In this paper, the research and development of emulsion polymerization, involving rosin modified acrylate latex, was reviewed. The rosin-acrylate composite latex with content of 4% acrylate and 45%solid was prepared. The rosin-acrylate hybrid latex was also studied and optimized.The best emulsifications of rosin latex were: the emulsification temperature was 95 degree;stirring speed was 450 rpm, lowed to 200 rpm after its inverse;the dripping water speed controlled 15~20 drops per minute;use the boiling water as solution of emulsifier. The rosin latex made at the best condition and the acrylic ester were synthesized to get composite latex.With synthesizing rosin-acrylate latex, the orthogonal experiment method was applied to select the best result. These result listed as follows, the content of initiator was 0.6% of total emulsion amount;Sodium dodecyl sulfate as emulsifier and its content was 4% of total amount;the rosin latex was 1 Og;the ratio of hard and soft acrylate was 1:1.5;the function acrylate was acrylic and occupied 5% of total amount.The optimized preparation craft of hybrid latex were: the feeding way was dropping rosin latex into the pure acrylate latex;the dripping speed was 20 drops per minute;the stirring speed was 350~400 rpm;the best ratio of rosin latex and acrylate latex amount was 1:1.5.The final test results showed that most of properties of two kind of rosin-acrylate latex such as stability, waterproof ability and the smooth of film etc. were superior to pure acrylate latex. And the composite latex was the best.
