The CNC system with open character has been the main stream and absolute trend in recent years and it provide with software platform based on powerful software and hardware resources, all these have made the general CNC with more wide range of application which can meet the requirements for flexibility of modern manufacturing and machining. It is widely used in spaceflight, automotives and presion instrument etc. The research for open CNC is of practical meaning. This thesis presents the research and design of the software system of the open CNC based Camshaft grinding machine.Traditional CNC system is unable to generate the manufacturing program by itself, and implements simple interpolation algorism which is obviously far below the requirement of the machine tool users for flexibility and precision. The second time development of Siemens 840D OEM software is done and the HMI for CNC camshaft grinding is established.Based on the theory of interpolation together with the geometry character of Camshaft, this thesis deduces the camshaft interpolation algrism and analyses the error, while at the same time some research of the constant linear speed grinding for camshaft is done to meet the requirements of high precision and high efficiency.The geometry and physical simulation of camshaft grinding is presented to improve the program for high precision. The realtime monitoring is realized by PLC and two different methods of measuring report are provided to prove the validity of the grinding software and simulation of this thesis.
