Wetland is one of the richest biodiversity zoology sights and most important human survival environments. Wetland is not only an important land resource but also a source of human production and living materials, and it is considered as the kidney of the earth.As a comprehensive software system mostly dealt with geographic information, Geographic Information System (GIS) is the result of the development of computer technology and information system. The present thesis applies GIS technology to the wetland to effectively manage and appropriately layout, and to provide technical support for the research and protection of wetland. The study of this application is still at the beginning.Efficiently integrated the spatial data and attribute data, the present thesis developed a wetland geographic information system based on Maplnfo on the basis of the analysis on the problems commonly existed in the wetland environment management and the full consideration of users' needs. It adopted the Bei Gushan wetland, Maplnfo 7.0 and MapBasic as the researching object, developing platform and programming language, respectively. The system is able to realize the following functions: (1) system maintenance (2) data analysis (3) output and help.Meanwhile, through Bei Gushan wetland vegetation investigation, the present thesis got the distributing rule of vegetation. It employed VMS to measure the vegetation in wetland and well combine the spatial position information, image and GIS.
