The thesis aims to develop a micro-vibration platform using Giant Magnetostrictive Vibrator (GMV), which is expected to improve the vibrating force and frequency scale of vibration welding technic. The Giant Magnetostrictive Vibrator, which transforms electricity to mechanical force by making use of magnetostrictive effect, just came out in the past few years. Compared with traditional vibrators, it has advantages of large load capacity, wide frequency scale, rapid response, high precision and superior controllability. The thesis has the following six chapters.In the first chapter, the vibration welding technic and some of its problems were introduced. In comparison with traditional vibrators, the superiorities of the GMV were emphasized. This explained the significance of the thesis.In the second chapter, the functions and the capabilities of the micro-vibration platform were set down. According to these functions and capabilities, a design proposal of the micro-vibration platform was worked out. This would be useful in the following steps of GMV design.In the third chapter, the conception of magnetostrictive effect was explained, and its mechanism was attributed to three factors: self-deformation, field-deformation and shape effects. The characteristics of GMM and the linear piezo-magnetic equations were crucial issues of this chapter.In the fourth chapter, the GMV was designed by several steps. Firstly the structure of the GMV was figured out, then, the dimensions of the GMM rod were calculated according to the output requirements, and the parameters of the driving coils were designed. The fourth step was to optimize the magnetic route for reducing the leak of magnetism. The temperature control system and the pre-stress device were designed at the last part of the chapter.The fifth chapter established a dynamics model for the GMV, as well as a PID control model in a current-control way. Then, the hardware of the control system was built up, and the software was developed with Lab VIEW platform.The conclusions and expectations took up the sixth chapter.The research results of the GMV micro-vibration platform can provide some references for the research of vibration welding instrument, and will benefit the development of vibration welding technic in China.
