Along with the computer technology popularization, the technique of finite element analysis (FEM) got more and more attention paid and applications engineering analysis and design, which has became a valid method in solving complicated engineering problems. It is the core of the process in the modern engineering design. FEM has been used to maked static analysis and modal analysis for inetallnrgical equipment is to shear. It can provide reliable data for design and manufacturing.The main use of the cutter that shearing specify length strip, the strip's end, the test sample and the partial disfigurement of the strip and so on. The cutter is an important auxilary equipment. For this reason, the capability of the cutter will affect the producing capability of the mill and the balance of the mill line process.This thesis includes analysis and research three key aspects of the technique on with the project of Swaying Hydraulic Cutter in the Hot Mill Quality Test Station in Baosteel have been confirmed. Firstly, the mechnical construction and hydraulic system by calculating the parameters of the cutter, analyzing and comparing the equipment's structural and driveing way, as well as considering the technique economy scheme. Secondly, we carry out the calculation, analysis, optimization with FEM for the housings enduring the force. We have established the housings' model with SolidWorks, probe the stress values on a specified section, to find out the weak part. Then optimize the housings with changing the state of force and structure of the cutter. It can offer warranty for design's scheme. We make the modal analysis on the optimized housings, to ensure the intrinsic frequency and the corresponding vibration mode of the object. This parameter can apply to the dynamic analysis of the equipment. Finally, we carry out the static and dynamic test of the housings structure, analyzing the frequency spectrum of the data. Comparing the calculation data with the test data, we have drawn a conclusion that the method of FEM is credibility in Metallurgy engineering.It is little error in the normal stress in with regard to the testing points,the calculated value of the first principal direction between the calculation value and the test.
