Grindability is the basic key technology of ceramic machining researches, which reflects the easy degree of material machining operations. According to the grindability of ceramics, the correct process can be selected and the ceramics can be machined effectively. The compositions and fabrication processes of ceramics can be designed on purpose and the requirements of machining can be met based on grindability.Grindability of ceramics is a comprehensive behavior which is the result of interactions by several factors. Through the researching on grindability, the evaluation system for ceramic grindability was built and the main factors influencing ceramic grindability were confirmed. Then grey relational analysis and analytic hierarchy process were recommended to confirm the weights of each factor. So the weights will be more accurate with the combination of the objectivity and subjectivity. On the basis of above results, the grindability of ceramics was evaluated by using fuzzy hierarchy comprehensive evaluation and grey cluster analysis methods. Evaluation soft was programmed with Visual Basic language. The feasibility and accuracy of these two methods were proved by evaluating the grindability of four typical ceramics. The new idea and methods were provided for evaluating the grindability of ceramics. The evaluation results can reflect the grindability of ceramics accurately, which are the basis and references to select tools and technology parameters during the machining operations of ceramics.
