There is a difference exists between the mould powder technique for thin slab continuous casting and the normal slab continuous casting powder in physical properties. The former is characterized by lower melting temperature, lower viscosity, higher melting rate, proper basicity and influent consumption. This paper describes the characteristic of thin slab continuous casting process and application situation of casting-powder in the process. Analyzes the effect of chemical component of the mould powder on its performance, while it changes, the physical properties has be effected. Emphasize discusses the relationship between the composition of material and the consumption of mould powder for thin slab casting. Because consumption strongly relies on the composition and performance of material of mould powder for thin slab casting, the experiment measures the melting temperature, surface tension and fluid length of mould powder by regulating the content of Li2CO3, NaF, Na2CO3, CaF2, cryolite and the basicity of mould powder, in order to study the relationship between the composition and performance of material and the consumption of mould powder for thin slab casting. The experimental results show that Li2O is the optimal fusing agents, the content of it should be between 2% and 5%; The physical properties will be improved distinctly after add fusing agents. The content of fusing agents can't excessively, or the lubricity and consumption should be affected. The viscosity is one of the important characteristics of the mould flux's fluid length. The influence of the surface tension is not remarkable in thermodynamics. The mould powder for thin slab casting needs optimum basicity. Various fluxes can increase the fluid length and the order of influence is Li2CO3 > NaF > cryolite > Na2CO3 > CaF2 .The order is also the influence of consumption.A new research approach is afforded in this paper for the consumption of mould powder. Through validate in the experiment, the measure method is a feasible program, the surveying stability is trustiness, the parameter which the experiment optioned is reasonably.
