Developing HSM database to provide appropriate machining parameters for companies which have HSM equipments is very imperative, and it is very important for generalizing the HSM technology.Based on the analyzing of the HSM technology, the technology database for HSM is designed; by comparing some different database structures, the C/S structure is adopted in order to use the system by local area network; the flow is designed. By comparing some DataBase Management System (DBMS), Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is chosen to develop the database, by analyzing the requirement, designing the conception, contriving the logic, the database is built which include technology data table, material data table, cutting tool data table, machine tool table, technology picture data table. The machining parameters which are from the HSM machining experiment of the lab and the cooperated companies are saved in the tables.In the dissertation, how to develop the use interface of the database system is discussed. The use interface, including main interface, use query interface, data management interface, is developed with Visual Basic 6.0. How to choose cutting tool material for HSM is analyzed. So the database system not only can provide some technology data, it also can give users some machining advice based on the mechanical machining theory.Until now there is shortage of large quantities of HSM technology data, in the dissertation the HSM experiments are summed up. And the data has been saved in the database. The cutting force by high speed milling of wrought aluminum alloy is measured and analyzed under separately examining the influences of various factors, such as cutting speed, cutting depth, milling width, feed rate, down or up milling, cooling. It is pointed out that high cutting speed, small cutting depth, properly augmentative milling width and feed rate, down milling and efficient cooling should be used to reduce cutting force and distortion as well as to improve milling accuracy and efficiency, which is very helpful to the technology of the high speed machining.
