Due to the massive production and extensive consumption of electrical and electronic equipment, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) has been increasing dramatically both in quantity and category. WEEE contains significant amounts of heavy metals and halogenated substances which, once disposed of through landfill or incineration, may present hazards to public health and the environment, thus attracting great attention of the authorities and industries worldwide. On the other hand, WEEE is also a kind of valuable resources, in particular metals and plastics. In recent years, China has made great efforts in the law-making actions on the management and treatment of WEEE. The technical standard of WEEE treatment is one of the regulations or laws governing the treatment of WEEE and may upgrade the WEEE recycling industry of China. In this thesis, the reuse and recycling technologies and fundamentals of WEEE are reviewed and the potential contaminations caused by the pollutants are addressed. In addition, several recycling or disposal processes of hazardous components are presented. Furthermore, the common practice of manual dismantling and reuse of electronic components conducted particularly in the rural areas are introduced and the favorable recycling process for China that combines advanced technology with abundant labor force is suggested.During the preparation of this technical standard, the regulations or...
