With the development of the global economy and the center of the global manufacturing industry being transferring to china and the development of various advanced manufacturing technology, manufacture process planning is becoming the bottle neck of the development of the Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems (CIMS). This paper makes a completely discussion for the theory and development method of the Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP), being aimed at the production process, research how to develop interactive CAPP systems.This paper also expounds the defects of traditional and manual manufacture process planning, analyzes the advantages of CAPP, points out that modern industries should take advantage of CAPP systems to shorten the cycle of manufacture process planning, to keep consistency for manufacture process planning, and to improve the level of manufacturing industry information management.Based on the analysis of the present condition of manufacture Process Planning of various industries, This paper draws up a ploy to develop CAPPof rectangle spline broach which bases on Solidworks 2006 and Visual Basic6.0, and the function and the total structure and the mode of CAPP of rectangle spline broach.This paper designs CAPP of rectangle spline broach in detail in order to realize its advantages and practicality. Analysing the characteristics of the technology equipment for making the rectangle spline broach and the data for the rectangle spline broach's technological design, selecting a programme for realization CAPP systems which is based on the management by data base, this CAPP system is composed of these models: the model of calculating the semi-finished product's dimensions, the model of filling the manufacture process form, the model of filling the working procedure...
