Aiming at the existing status of low precision, low efficiency, complicated cutters and low flexibility in the machining of back-angled shifterstops of automobile synchronizer sleeves in China, this paper proposes a new method-cycloid rotational indexing method-to machine back-angled shifterstops. In order to verify this method, a lot of machining experiments have been done. As a result, the method has many advantages such as high efficiency, high precision, simple cutters and tips, simple post-processing, high flexibility and so on. The details are as following:Based on the mathematical model of cycloid, the machining principle of cycloid rotational indexing was described firstly. Then the method of using cycloid to approach involute was proposed to machine the back-angled shifterstops.The theory of cycloid approaching involute was researched in depth. The approximate error formula was derived and the extreme point of approximate error can be solved for through specified formula; On condition that the approximate error was in allowable range, the optimization algorithm to fix cycloid parameters was given for the objective of the highest machining efficiency.The method to calculate the mounted position of cutters on axis was given, solving the interference problem of rake face and flank face with tooth profile, at the same time, making the machining condition optimum.According to the cycloid parameters, the NC program was developed. Through a lot of machining experiments, the factors that impact on the process precision were found out and analyzed from the aspect of theory or experiment.
