Research On NC Milling Database Based On Virtual Manufacturing And Modeling Of End Mills

Virtual maching process simulation is a key technique and an important means in Virtual Manufacturing (VM). Application of cutting databases in simulating system can raise the quantity and the efficiency. In this paper, on the basis of the analyses and investigation of current achievements, main research has been done in the following aspects.1. Cutting database system in the NC process simulation is founded. The main function, constrction and executing methods of cutting databases in the NC process simulation are presented in detail. cutting databases in the NC process simulation are constructed.2. Modeling and simulation of milling cutters are studied. The unitive geometry model of end-mills is builded. The processes of mathematical and computer construction of parameterization 3D-modeling of helical end-mills are described in detail. Helicoid profile is founded by B-rep method and OpenGL technology. The parameterization 3D-modeling of end milling cutter by database is founded, can be dynamic observed.3. The relation data model of tool database is presented; the database management system of tool is constructed. This system can accomplish the fuzzy lookup, editing, adding and deleting. The functions of the selector of tools and reports are realized. The intelligent selection of tool is also studied.4. The data model of milling parameter database is presented; the database management system of milling parameter is constructed. According to the machining requirements, the system can guide the customers properly selection of tool materials and cutting parameters, and make it convenient to predict cutting forces and consumed power.In this paper, Access 2000 is adopted as the databsse management system, while Visual Basic 6.0 is used as the development tool in client and database access is realized by means of ADO, the database management system of tool and milling parameter are developed.
