Chain-saws, especially the gasoline-powered chain-saws and electric powered chain-saws, are used in lumbering widely. Their main functuons are cutting woods and machining lumber. However, the rotation part of chain-saw will be kickback, when it is impacted by rigid object. If the kickback potential is so strong that can let the chainholder in danger. So it is very important to determine the kickback potential of the chain-saw and make sure whether the kickback potential has exceeded the standards. Research and design chain-saw kickback potential test system is necessary because of safty detection under this background.In this article, Firstly, the concept of chain-saw kickback potential test, the component of the system, the methodology for determining the kickback potential of chain-saw and notice about the test are introduced. After analysis of this system measurement methods, finding the process of getting the conclusion and the formularies using in the test mothod. Design the hardware and software of this system. Finally, put forward the solution to detect the instantaneous velocity in the kickback potential test system, make sure the solution is suitable for the requirements of the system according to the result of simulation and calculation.Singlechip MSP430F149 is the main controller unit, it build up the electronical section with other periphery component and interface.μC/OS-Ⅱ, the embedded real time operation system, is using to meet the real time and multitask requirement of the test system. It has been successful to portingμC/OS-Ⅱto singlechip system base on MSP430F149 according to validation. Using PAD base on Palm operation system to process and save the data instead of general computer, because it will be more convenient for data moving and communion.Lastly, put forward the solution for detecting the instantaneous velocity and analyse the source of the error which is the delay time of the infrared sensors. Through simulation and calculation, testifying this solution of measure the velocity is feasible.
