Currently, facing a series of incisive contradictories in the population, resources, environment and the economical development, people need to re-realize the relationship between the origin of environment and human's activities as well as the expense patterns, by system innovation, technology advancement and management transformation, people can coordinates the relation between people and nature, promotes sustainable development in human society. So we urgently need a method which can thoroughly, comprehensively and comprehensively understand the resources consumption and environmental effect people engaged in and caused. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) takes as an environment management tool for product, through environmental effect assessment to the entire life cycle of a product or service system (including raw material gain, production and product manufacture, product using until finally disposing), it can avoid the one-sided conclusion which causes by the limitation of tradition environmental effect assessment. The application of LCA has covered the entire industry society, involves the design of industry product and craft, the assessment and the formulation of environment policy, the wastes management and so on, and now it has become the first choice to establish industrial development strategy in many developed countries.On basis of summarizing the evolvement of techniques and the state of LCA, the paper establishes a set of LCA model on municipal solid waste (MSW) treatment. In addition, the paper has set up a multi-factors evaluating model of life cycle impact assessment integrating aspects on environmental sustainability, economy capability, society acceptability and technology feasibility. In order to realize environment impact quantification, the calculation of environmental impact potential based on fuzzy comprehensive methods is introduced, And furthermore, apply it to the MSW life cycle assessment of Chengdu city systematically. By the calculation of LCA model, we can obtain the environmental impact potential of the four treatments. In the landfill treatment, the environment impact potential of the global warming contributes the biggest, 93.41%; in the compost treatment, the nourishment contributes the biggest, 35.31%; in the incineration treatment, the global warming contributes the biggest, 75.84%; and in the synthesized treatment, the global warming contributes the biggest, too, 37.23%. Considering the synthesized weight of economic factor, environment factor, technique factor and social factor, it arrived at that the value of landfill is the highest: 97.04, the next is incineration: 64.00, synthesized treatment: 54.72, and composting: 46.56. That is to say, under the current circumstance of Chengdu city, the landfill is in keeping with the present MSW treatment. On the basis of social development and economic ability, the incineration treatment can be acted as an auxiliary treatment method. The conclusion Obtained can be well applied in other city's management and assessment of MSW. By using it, the municipal solid waste treatment will consequentially develop in a more sustainable way.
